Zimfest Update

Transit Info

We have put together transit information for those people in the greater Seattle area who do not want to drive to the festival or for those who need to get from SeaTac airport to PLU. See the Travel page.

New Workshops

We found out several days ago that Julia Chigamba will now be attending the entire festival and wanted to teach some workshops. Normally, we would not add a new teacher this late but her planned trip to Zimbabwe was canceled and this was an opportunity to make her available for teaching after a 3 year absence from Zimfest. Julia brings a unique style of Zimbabwean dancing to this year’s festival and her workshops offer much to both beginning and advanced dance students. Please see the following list of newly added workshops.

In addition, we also added a second session of a very popular marimba class — Eric Miller’s Intermediate Marimba: Dande. During registration, we have had many requests for more marimba classes at this level. See the list below for the time of this workshop.

Documentaries

During the festival we will be showing several new documentaries that have been done by various members of our community. Laurel and Doug Epps have prepared a sneak preview for their documentary about Zimbabwean music in North America. Robin Truesdale has made a new documentary (which was filmed last year in Zimbabwe) about rural life in Zimbabwe. Elaine Vradenburgh from Eugene has made a documentary about the Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center in Eugene. The viewing schedule for all of these documentaries will be in the Festival Guide at Zimfest.

General Reminders

Remember, there is less than 2 weeks now before online registration closes so please check your schedule and make your decisions. Also, payment for workshops must be received by June 23 to keep your registration.

One last reminder — everyone who is staying on campus or taking workshops must pay the $10 registration fee. There has been some confusion on this but the university will be charging us that fee for everyone who is staying on campus as well as those who are taking workshops. If you did not pay this fee, please send it now or be prepared to pay when you arrive at the festival.
